I have good news for you! You are who God says you are. You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else any longer. So, as you look in the mirror, smile back at yourself as you are reminded that you are custom made by God Himself! Today we’re studying about finding your identity in Christ as we look at ten Bible verses about identity.
Before we dig in, let’s think about heaven for a few minutes.
Did you know that there is a book in Father God’s vast library that has your name on it?
Had you ever thought that Father God has a library? Can you imagine the rows and rows of bookshelves? I think about the local libraries I have visited over the years and I can’t even imagine how big our Father’s library is! Can you?
The section of books that we will look at today on our Father’s bookshelves are the books that have our names on them or in them.
For instance, if you look over here, you’ll find my book — Cindy’s Destiny. God wrote it a very long time ago. In fact, it was written before the very foundation of the earth. And look, there is a book with your name on it too. Both of our books will tell us about our identity in Christ.
Your Unique Identity in Christ
You are unique. I am unique, and yet we tend to compare ourselves to others. We don’t like what we see in the mirror. Sometimes we don’t like how we act or how we laugh or the size of our hands but our identity is so much more than these things. For the child of God, our identity is based on how God designed us and the plan He has for each of us.
If you have studied with me before then you’ll know that I prefer to point you to the Scriptures rather than me tell you what I think it says. This way, you learn for yourself what the Bible says on any given topic.
For now, let’s turn the pages in the Bible to Ephesians 1:1-23. We are going to look at some identity verses in this chapter as well as a few in Colossians. Paul taught us who we are and that we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ. And that’s because God chose us in Christ Jesus from before the foundation of the world. Every time I read that, I’m grateful that God chose me first.
I know two things that are in my book,
- that I should walk holy and blameless before Him, and,
- I am adopted into God’s family through Jesus Christ.
And yet, there is so much more planned for me if I follow God’s plan for my life.
God is writing my book, even now, and He’s writing your book, too.
Psalm 139:16 says that God saw me before I was formed and wrote all about me in His book. Everything that He ordained for me was written before I was even born. Not just for me, but for you, too!
