The Minor Prophet Series
The Book of Haggai is the second shortest book in the Old Testament with only two chapters.
Not much is known about Haggai other than references to him in Ezra. He served in Judah and Jerusalem and worked alongside Zechariah rebuilding the temple. An interesting fact about Haggai is he saw the rebuild of the Temple started and stopped twice. The Jewish nation was returning from their 70-year captivity in Babylon, though only a remnant returned the first time and therefore, only a few were involved in the first attempt to rebuild the Temple.
Haggai served from the years 520-505 while Zechariah served from 520-489.
Haggai’s message was to encourage the people to finish the task they had started. The Temple needed to be rebuilt as it is the place of divine presence and the LORD’s glory.
